Our goal is to provide a platform where teachers can freely share their work and messages. At the same time, we also have to cater to the needs of our community of meditators, making sure that the platform remains a place of refuge. To accomplish this, we have created content requirements and guidelines and built the following list with some of the tried and tested practices our teachers can employ.
LENGTH
We offer content with durations ranging from 45 seconds to over 90 minutes. For guided meditations, we recommend a duration between 10 and 20 minutes, and slightly longer durations (21-30 minutes, or >30 minutes) for music and talks. However, you can choose the duration that best conveys your intended message and content.
For courses, we require a minimum of 2 lessons, and there is no maximum limit; however, we suggest having between 5 and 10 lessons for a comprehensive course. Each lesson should not be shorter than 5 minutes. When creating course lessons, we recommend a duration of 10 to 15 minutes.
TOPICS
Our most popular topics on the app are: Sleep - Anxiety - Stress - Mornings - Self-compassion - Self-esteem - Affirmations - Mindfulness - Abundance - Manifestation - Breathwork - Chakras - Breaks, Pause - Gratitude - Relationships - Love - Workplace - Healing - Happiness - Moon - Focus, Concentration - Let Go - Parenting - Self-Love - Unwind - Energy. Practices that address or are centered around these tend to do well with our community. However, make sure to share topics of your expertise.
ENDING BELL
We recommend using an ending bell unless it is a music track, talk, or meditation for sleep. Please note that Insight Timer does not supply or provide the ending bell.
AUDIO QUALITY
Audio quality is a significant factor in how your track performs, impacting plays and reviews. Below are the recommended audio settings for tracks:
Format/Codec: MP3
Bitrate: 128kbps
Sample rate: 48khz
Maximum file size: 500 MB
It is worth taking the time to make your recording sound as good as possible. Remember that people will be meditating, so any sound in the background or microphone interference can cause immediate distraction. We understand not everyone has access to a recording studio, and we have compiled a list of recording tips to help you record the best quality meditations at home.
BACKGROUND MUSIC
Background music is optional, but should you wish to use one for your track, make sure that you own the music or have expressed and/or written permission to use it. Here are some commonly used royalty-free sources by teachers on Insight Timer.
TITLE
For visual design purposes, your track title should be written with the first letter of each word capitalized. It should also be succinct and clear. Make generalized titles like "Mindfulness Practice" specific by adding the focus or the benefit of the track. For example, "Mindfulness Practice To Relieve Stress & Anxiety".
Avoid redundancy in titles. For example, you don't need to mention "guided meditation" multiple times in the title or include the teacher's name in the track title. Our platform is already designed to categorize content effectively, so users can easily find guided meditations and identify the content's publisher. It's best to opt for shorter titles for a more visually appealing presentation within the app. Example: Don't use "Guided Meditation for Anxiety by Joseph Woods". Use "Anxiety Relief", or "Managing Anxiety", etc.
TYPE OF CONTENT
Be sure to categorize your content properly. Please note that silent meditations will not be allowed as per our content requirements and guidelines. Poems, interviews, readings, speeches, and podcasts should be put under Talks. If a talk includes a guided meditation, there is an option to indicate this in the upload form. The same goes for music and you can categorize them into different genres under Music. Properly categorizing your uploads will boost its discoverability.
IMAGERY
Always prefer photographs rather than graphically edited/created images. Natural, professional, and not overly edited photographs attract more listeners, leveraging your content’s popularity. For free, high-quality images, you can use unsplash.com or pexels.com. Please refer to our image requirements & technical specifications for the complete guidelines.
DESCRIPTION
Please write your descriptions in paragraph form, cohesively, in proper sentence cases, without special characters or emojis. Make your description at least 200 characters and 1000 characters at most. The more information you put in the description, the better your track's discoverability becomes. Please also credit contributors, collaborators, and/or influences in the description by mentioning their full names. Do not add links, contact information, social media profiles, or any type of promotional content.
COPYRIGHT STATUS
Ensure that the copyright status on the upload form is filled out. Unclear or blank copyright status may result in delays in publishing. We recommend that teachers attribute the original authors in track descriptions when sharing copyright-free content, such as bedtime stories, to ensure that authors are properly acknowledged.
VOICE IN THE FILE
The app allows users to filter tracks by male or female voice. Filling out the "voice in the file" section will ensure that your track appears accordingly when these filters are on.
NOTABLE CONTRIBUTIONS
Remember to add the relevant information in the track or course description to avoid any copyright infringement.
