Why Can't I Promote Any External Content or Services on Insight Timer?

At Insight Timer, we're committed to providing a peaceful, focused environment for our 30 million meditation and mindfulness community members. Our platform is designed to support introspection, contemplation, personal growth, and emotional wellbeing. To protect that experience, we have guidelines about what can and can't be promoted.


Our promotion policy

Insight Timer teachers and publishers should not promote external services, products, or content on our platform. This means no links to or references about outside apps, websites, workshops, books, courses hosted elsewhere, social media accounts, retreats, email newsletters, or other external services.


This policy applies everywhere on Insight Timer — in your private content, in comments, in chat, in audio, in images, and in all places where you interact with the community.


First Stage

Promoting external content will result in us notifying you that you have not met our no-promotions guidelines. Additionally, our system flags and erases comments, messages, and posts containing such content as a default procedure.


Second Stage

Continued promotion after the first stage will result in us sending you a warning notification and action may be taken to close the teacher profile page.


Following this process ensures everyone receives ample information about the guidelines before any final action is taken.

Why we have this policy


Protecting our contemplative space: Insight Timer should remain a space free from external advertising and commercial distraction. When teachers promote outside services, it interrupts the peaceful, focused environment we've built for our community members who come here to meditate and practice mindfulness.


Sustainability and teacher support: We're committed to making Insight Timer sustainable as a business while sharing revenue fairly with our teacher community. If teachers freely promoted external products and services, it would undermine our ability to invest in the platform, support teachers financially, and maintain the quality experience our community relies on.


A level playing field: By not allowing external promotion, we ensure all teachers on Insight Timer are treated equally. We don't want some teachers to have unfair advantages because they have bigger audiences on other platforms.


What you can do instead

While you can't promote external services, there are plenty of ways to grow your audience and business within Insight Timer:


  • Create courses on Insight Timer: Build multi-lesson courses directly on our platform to keep your content and community in one place
  • Offer free and premium tracks: Use our free tier to attract listeners, and create premium tracks for MemberPlus subscribers
  • Host live events: Connect with your community in real time through live sessions
  • Use promotional cards: Showcase your offerings in live chat when you're hosting
  • Build your teacher profile: Create a complete, compelling profile that helps community members learn about you and your teaching

These guidelines are the rules all teachers must follow on Insight Timer. They apply to every type of content and every interaction on our platform. By following these guidelines, you help us maintain the peaceful, focused environment that makes Insight Timer special for millions of practitioners worldwide.
