Who Owns the Copyright to the Content Published on Insight Timer?

Teachers retain full ownership of the copyright to all content they publish on Insight Timer. When you upload a guided meditation, music track, talk, podcast, course, or any other content to our platform, you continue to own the intellectual property rights to that material. Publishing on Insight Timer does not transfer your copyright to us or anyone else.

Your responsibility to own or authorize your content

Before uploading any content to Insight Timer, you must ensure that you either own the copyright to the material or have explicit written permission from the copyright owner. Copyright infringement is illegal and is strictly prohibited on Insight Timer. Any community member who violates copyright will be immediately removed and permanently banned from the platform. Beyond platform penalties, publishers may be held legally liable and prosecuted for copyright infringement in court.

Make absolutely certain that you own the copyright to all content, images, and music you include in your courses and tracks, or that the materials are royalty-free and in the public domain. Some works are already in the public domain — such as older readings, lectures, published stories, and other historical materials — and may be acceptable for publishing. If you use public domain work, you must credit the original creators properly.

Trademarked methods and proprietary practices

If you're creating content based on a trademarked method, specific practice, or proprietary system, you must have authorization from the trademark holder. This includes well-known methods and systems such as: the Wim Hof Method, Transcendental Meditation, A Course in Miracles (ACIM), Max Meditation System, teachings by Goenka, Deepak Chopra, Dr. Joe Dispenza, Alan Watts, SOMA Meditation, Carl Jung, José Silva (Silva Method), John O'Donohue, OSHO, or any other trademarked practice or teacher's proprietary system.

When uploading content based on these trademarked methods or practices, you must provide relevant written permission documentation and proper credentials showing you're authorized to teach or reference the method. Our review team will verify this authorization before publishing your content.

Royalty-free music restrictions

Royalty-free music is allowed on Insight Timer, but only when used as background music for guided meditations or courses — not as standalone music tracks. If you want to publish music as a primary track (a music playlist, an original composition, or a song), you must have full rights to that music or explicit license from the rights holder.

When in doubt, don't upload

As a general rule: if you did not create the content yourself and you're uncertain about its copyright status or who owns the rights, please refrain from uploading it to Insight Timer. Uncertainty is not worth the legal risk. It's always safer to ask first and publish later than to publish first and face consequences.
