How to Set a Daily Reminder
Building a consistent meditation habit takes commitment, and reminders help. The Insight Timer app lets you set daily reminders to prompt you to practice mindfulness, meditation, sleep exercises, yoga, or breathwork. Reminders keep you motivated and make it easier to turn meditation into a regular part of your routine.
Why use daily reminders?
Many people find that reminders at the same time each day help create a meditation habit that sticks. Whether you're working on stress relief, better sleep, or building an emotional health practice, a gentle reminder at the right moment makes a real difference. You can customize which types of practices you want to be reminded about—choosing what works for your lifestyle.
Set reminders in the Insight Timer app
Setting up reminders is simple and takes just a few taps:
- Open the Insight Timer app.
- Tap the menu icon (☰) in the top-left corner.
- Tap Settings.
- Select Encouragement & Notifications.
- Under Reminders, toggle your preferred categories on or off. You can choose to receive reminders for meditation, sleep, yoga, breathwork, and other practice types.
Enable notifications on your device
For reminders to actually arrive on your phone, you also need to allow notifications at the device level. Reminders won't work if your device is blocking Insight Timer notifications. Here's how to check your device settings:
On iOS
- Go to Settings on your device.
- Tap Notifications.
- Find and select Insight Timer from the app list.
- Turn on Allow Notifications.
- Optionally, choose how you'd like to be notified (badges, sounds, banners).
On Android
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps or Apps & Notifications.
- Select Insight Timer from the list.
- Tap Notifications and ensure they are turned on.
- Optionally, adjust your notification preferences.
Once you've set everything up
After you've enabled reminders both in the Insight Timer app and in your device settings, you'll receive notifications at your selected time each day. This consistent prompt helps you stay on track with your meditation practice and maintain your emotional health routine. Start with one reminder time, and as your practice grows, you can add more reminders for different types of content or different times of day.
