It has been our intention from the start to help Insight Timer teachers earn meaningful revenue from their work. This is made possible through the following ways:
- Subscription Revenue
- Donations
- Individual Course Sales
SUBSCRIPTION REVENUE
For US$59.99 per year (US$9.99 per month) a user now gets access to all Premium Content (Courses and Tracks) and a selection of premium features including Offline Mode and Dark Mode.
Teachers receive 50% of all subscription income that Insight Timer receives after app store commissions.
Teacher revenue is allocated per the following:
- 70% Premium Content (Courses and Premium Tracks)
- 30% Free Tracks
We calculate who earns what based on two metrics only:
- Total play count (75%)
- Teacher engagement (25%)
This means the more plays your content gets and the more you engage with students by responding to reviews and answering questions, the more you will earn. We love for teachers to interact with meditators in a way that is authentic, insightful, and adds value to their experience. However, while Insight Timer celebrates and rewards genuine and thoughtful engagement, we don't reward behavior that artificially increases the number of comments, plays, and reviews.
Content and accounts participating in this activity may be removed from Insight Timer.
DONATIONS
It's possible for teachers on the app to receive donations from their listeners. There will be three donation amounts available: US$1.99, US$4.99, and US$19.99.
The Apple App Store and the Google Play Store both charge a 30% distribution fee (aka commission), and after this is deducted, the Publisher will receive 80% of the revenue while Insight Timer gets 20%.
Let's say you receive a donation of US$19.99. There will be a 30% distribution fee amounting to US$6.00. The net will be US$13.99. You will receive 80% of this which is US$11.20.

INDIVIDUAL COURSE SALES
Courses are available as part of our Member Plus subscription on the app, however, they can also be purchased individually through our website.
They are sold for US$19.99 or US$39.99, depending on the number of sessions.
The teacher receives 50% of the revenue per course (50/50 Split) after the payment processing fee of 3-4% has been taken into account.
For example, for a course that costs US$19.99, the 3% Payment Processing Fee is US$0.59. For this, Insight Timer receives US$19.39. This will then be split 50/50. The teacher will then get US$9.69 for every individual sale.

PAYMENT
Insight Timer processes all payments via PayPal in an effort to keep transfer fees as low as possible for teachers. The receiver of the funds will pay PayPal Fees. The fees are subject to change as per PayPal. The PayPal Fees vary according to the amount transferred and the teacher's country of origin. PayPal fees were last revised on the 21st of August, 2020. Fees are as follows:
- USA - 2% of the transaction amount up to US$1.00USD
- Rest of World - 2% of transaction amount up to a maximum of $20.00
Our payment cycle for Teachers is monthly. We issue payments on the 21st of the month (USA time zone) when their revenue total reaches our payment threshold of US$10.00. If this day falls on a non-working day, the payment will be received on the next working day.
Consequently, if your revenue total is below US$10.00, you will receive an income statement but the payment will not yet be transferred to your PayPal account. Only when your total revenue reaches or exceeds US$10.00 will we issue payment in accordance with our pay cycle.
If you're yet to provide us with your PayPal information, you'll need to fill in your payment details in the Teacher Dashboard under the Payments Details tab. Please also note that a track play count is only qualified for compensation when users listen to 50% of its total length and/or at least two (2) minutes of it. Moreover, any unclaimed earnings after 12 months will be donated to charity.
